Do you need new inspiration for how to organise your home gym equipment to save time in your workouts and finally stop tripping up over your dumbbells or kettlebells stored on the floor? This blog is just for you!

What are the Benefits of an Organised Home Gym?

Having an organised home gym saves time in your workouts as you can create stations by placing and storing equipment in dedicated training zones, such as exercise mats and resistance bands in your yoga section, and your Bumper Weight Set next to your squat rack.

This will save on transition time and time spent looking for the next pair of dumbbells for your pyramid set. Better yet, if you are training with a friend, having an organised training zone for each activity will mean that you know exactly where each piece of equipment is for the workout, and stop you getting in each other’s way transitioning between exercises.

By storing your plates, barbells, dumbbells or kettlebells on either wall-mounted storage or on internal rack-mounted storage, you’ll have more room for plyometric or floor based exercises. For any fitness accessories that don’t have a dedicated storage space (such as exercise mats, resistance bands, rollers etc.) a storage box will keep them off the floor and out of the way.

Keeping the floor clear of clutter is much safer than having your equipment scattered on the floor, creating trip hazards. The last thing you want mid-session is to trip over your dumbbells!

How Should You Design Your Home Gym Layout?

When thinking about where you should place specific gym equipment, pay attention to your environment, for instance you might want to consider placing your conditioning zone near a window to cool down, or placing your cardio equipment near a plug socket. For general strength and fitness, I’d recommend using the following three stations, or choosing two if you have a small garage gym.

Strength Zone - Half Squat Rack and dedicated platform for squats and deadlifts, stacked with plates for the barbells. Add a gym mirror so you can make sure you’re keeping good form during lifts.

Cardio Zone - Cardio machines of choice, mat, kettlebells all in one area near the window.

Multi-Use Zone - In the middle could be your benches and dumbbells for quick access whether you want to use them for a strength or cardio focused workout. The Adjustable Weight Bench can be moved to under the squat rack or in line with the mirror/ the dumbbells when not in use.

We hope this blog has inspired you where you can position everything in your home gym to help you optimise your training sessions by saving you time and making the most out of the space that you have!
