Mica Moore began her sporting career as a sprinter, competing in the 60, 100 and 200 meter sprint. Some of her biggest achievements include winning National titles, achieving National records and, most incredibly, representing Wales in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Not only is Mica Moore an incredible talent on the track but she is also a professional Bobsleigher in which she competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics. These are the four core pieces of home gym equipment that make the biggest difference to her training.

Barbell

Barbells allow Mica to get a wide variety of exercises done with just this one piece of equipment, such as power cleans, snatches and deadlifts. However, she also her Olympic Weight Set it to help with her mobilisation which is key for sprinting. This includes exercises such as front squats and Bulgarians, as well as strengthening her hamstrings by performing glute bridges.

Drop Pads

Mica believes these drop pads are essential for any home gym! Being a professional athlete, her gym equipment is in constant use and the soft cushioning of drop pads helps her keep weight plates in top shape. She loves strength training outside, and sometimes takes her gym to her car park, so drop pads are necessary to avoid damaging her barbell and plates. As with most professional athletes, Mica has also faced inevitable injuries and adversities and therefore understands the importance of a gentle impact surface during the rehabilitation stages. Weightlifting Drop Pads also allow her to perform her sprint drills by providing extra surface support and comfort.

Dumbbells

According to the international superstar, dumbbells are an essential piece of equipment for a home gym because they are small and easy to transport! Mica spends half the year travelling to competitions or training away from home, therefore dumbbells are an absolute necessity for herself. She uses them for her upper body, lower body, and core strength, which all are incredibly important for both bobsleighing and sprinting. Such exercises she performs with dumbbells include Bulgarian split squats, dumbbell plank rows and shoulder press. Mica recommends the micro change plates which are mini weights that can be added onto the handle to increase the overall load. These are super small pieces of equipment and therefore extremely easy for her to store at home or transport with her to prepare for competitions.

Hyperextension Bench

The last piece of equipment within the core four is the Hyperextension Bench. This is essential for Mica as it allows her to strengthen her lower back for both sprinting and bobsleighing which increases overall maximum strength. Micas go to exercises for this includes both the back extension and single leg back extension. They both help increase her ability to coordinate movement, which helps her to improve ger overall posture in both her sports and exercise movements too.
