So, if these are the lifts for you, let’s get into why you need a power bar.

What is a Power Bar?

A power bar is a specialist barbell designed for Powerlifting. Whilst all-purpose barbells try to balance features for various lifting styles, power bars optimise everything for chasing powerlifting PBs.

The Mirafit Power Bar is a 20kg, 7ft (220cm) bar that matches all IPF specifications. Built from high-tensile sprung steel with a robust 210k PSI tensile strength, you can load our Power Bar up to a staggering 680kg with no drop in performance. The 50mm diameter sleeves are compatible with all Olympic weight plates.

Who Should Use a Power Bar?

Power bars are ideal for -

• Competitive powerlifters training to follow IPF standards.

• Strength athletes focused on big compound lifts.

• Home gym owners prioritising strength over cardio and bodybuilding.

• Lifters who want more stability and grip for their heavy lifts.

It's worth noting that power bars are not recommended for Olympic lifts like cleans and snatches – our spinning bearing bars are better suited for these fast, dynamic movements.

Top 5 Reasons To Use a Power Bar

1 - More Aggressive Knurling

Power bars feature sharper, deeper knurling patterns that give you a more secure grip for your heavy deadlifts and reduces the need for excessive chalk or straps at lower weights. Our power bar includes both IPF knurl marks and centre knurling – key for maintaining optimal positioning during heavy back squats.

2 - Low Levels of Bar Whip

Unlike Olympic weightlifting bars which are designed to bend and spin, power bars maintain rigidity under load. This minimal ‘whip’ creates a predictable, stable platform for your heaviest squats and deadlifts. The sprung steel construction provides enough flex without compromising barbell stability.

3 - Increased Barbell Shaft Diameter

Our power bar features a thicker 29mm shaft compared to regular 28mm Olympic bars. This small increase in diameter distributes pressure more evenly across your hands and back during squats and bench press. The combination of bigger diameter and deeper knurling does feel different in your hand compared to a general gym barbell, but it will give you better grip.

4 - Reduced Levels of Spin

Whilst Olympic lifters need free-spinning sleeves for dynamic movements, powerlifters benefit from controlled rotation. Our power bar uses self-lubricating, graphite plugged bronze bushings with stainless steel outer sleeve bushings for the best durability. This engineering choice provides enough spin to prevent wrist strain without creating instability. It also means the power bar is lower maintenance than bearing bars.

5 - Specific IPF Knurling Marks

Our power bar features IPF-standard knurling marks without the additional Olympic lifting marks found on multi-purpose bars. This clean layout eliminates confusion and helps you quickly find the ideal hand position for your lifts. The standardised spacing makes sure your training set-up matches what you'll encounter in competition environments.

If you’re thinking about upping your strength game, investing in a quality power bar can be a game-changer. And with ‘Power Bar’ proudly displayed on the end caps, you’ll be inspired every time you step up to the weight. We’ve recently relaunched our Power Barbell range, featuring new coatings and colourways, so there’s never been a better time to buy.
