Micro Change Plates will Revitalise Your Workouts
Micro Change Plates will Revitalise Your Workouts
Micro change plates allow you to squeeze that little bit more out of your workout by adding a fractional amount of weight to the equipment you are training with. Typically, weight plates start at 1.25kg, meaning you can only work in 2.5kg jumps for typical barbell exercises. Change plates however allow you to work in much smaller jumps and typically come in pairs of 0.25kg, 0.5kg or 1kg plates. Break through your bench press plateau or hit that squat PB without having to jump a full 2.5kg.
Micro Change Plates vs Fractional Plates
We’ve covered what change plates are, but what specifically are the Mirafit Micro Change Plates? Why are they different? Whilst conventional change plates are constructed in the same way as normal gym plates, these micro change plates have an open-ended section, rather than a completely solid, closed construction. This means the centre hole of the plate can open and adjust to the fit of a vast range of equipment.
Instead of being limited to using change plates on barbells, you can now add incremental weights to dumbbells or kettlebells, or anything with a handle between 25-34mm for that matter. They also fit perfectly on the centre of most barbells (not to be loaded on to the sleeve), adding and removing these micro change plates is a breeze and takes seconds to do. No collars, no dragging a plate all the way down the bar sleeve, just pop it on and go.
Who Should Use Micro Change Plates?
Beginner Weight Lifters
For beginners, there can often be a hesitancy to move up the weight on strength exercises, because going from 4kg Dumbbells to 6kg Dumbbells may feel like too big of a jump, mentally or physically. These plates allow a happy middle-ground and allow for continued progression and results, as well as helping break down some of those mental barriers. They can also help the smaller sets of weight many have in their home gym to go that little bit further, before the need to buy new plates or dumbbells/kettlebells becomes necessary.
Regular Strength Trainers
For regular lifters, micro change plates allow for small increases on your main and accessory lifts, letting you continually progress up the weight range, known as progressive overload, without having to take too big of a jump, ensuring you can maintain consistent form while developing the strength needed to move up the dumbbell rack, or before selecting that bigger kettlebell. You can add these to your barbell exercises, too, so they offer extreme versatility both in a gym setting and for at home workouts.
Frequent Travellers
What if you travel a lot for work? Due to their extremely compact size, a set of micro change plates can be easily taken with you, accompanied by a pair of dumbbells or kettlebells, or both! Either way, these allow you to continue to get your workouts in whilst on the move. Plus, if you’re in a basic hotel gym, take these with you to get that little bit more out of your training time. They can also be stored easily in home gyms, meaning you need to store fewer free weights.
To summarise, their compact size and versatility make flexible change plates an asset for all gym-goers, whether you are new to fitness or strength training, or have been doing it for years. They can help you remain confident and ensure technique remains correct, whilst slowly increasing the weight ranges you can safely hit.
Fractional plates have already proven their worth in a lot of use cases but adding them to dumbbells and kettlebells make micro change plates a must-have for anybody’s kit bag or home-gym setup.
