Chest Press in a Mirafit Functional Trainer

Imagine if there was one perfect piece of equipment that could do anything and everything. Now open your eyes because it’s here…the Mirafit Functional Trainer.

In this article we’ll go through everything there is to know about the Functional Trainer: What it is, how to use it and even give you a sample full body working using this one piece of kit

What is a Functional Trainer?

The Functional Trainer is the most versatile piece of equipment in a gym. Fundamentally it’s a lot of different machines rolled into one to make a multi-functional piece of kit. The machine consists of two aluminium cable pulleys, each with its own weight stack that can load up to 91 kg (200lbs). With 20 height positions at 80mm hole distance, it can be used at a lower height for bicep curls, or higher for straight arm pulldowns. In the middle of the machine there are wide, narrow and neutral grip pull up bars, all with rubberised handles.

Not only can you target every body part, but you can also move through all three planes of movement (horizontal, vertical and diagonal) with a functional trainer. This makes it perfect for a variety of training goals, whether you’re a bodybuilder wanting to increase muscle mass, or you’re going through exercise rehab and need to focus on more controlled and isolated movements. It also comes with a variety of handles -

• 2 x V-handles

• 2 x Roller handles

• 1 x V-row handle

• 1 x Tricep rope

• 1 x Short bar

• 1 x Long bar

• 1 x Ankle strap

Functional Trainer vs Cable Pulley Machine

Both pieces of equipment are extremely handy for performing a vast number of movements, however the functional trainer comes out on top for training versatility. Because there are two independent pulley systems, it allows for an array of movements in more planes of motion.

One other reason why you might choose a Functional Trainer is if you want to progress further and need a heavier load. A Cable Pulley Machine is a single-stack load, whereas the Functional Trainer is a dual stack, meaning you include more load on certain movements. The two-stack system also means that two movements can be performed at the same time.

Is a Functional Trainer Worth Buying?

In short, yes. But here are some reasons why you should consider investing in a Functional Trainer:

It's the all-in-one piece of equipment you need

If you were only going to choose one piece of equipment for your home gym, it would be this. With just one single machine you can target every single body part whilst talking up a minimal amount of room. With the 91 kg load and 4.5 kg increments, it’s also incredibly easy to progress.

You can Train with your Partner

There are two sides to the functional trainer and two weight stacks which means two people can use it simultaneously. This is great if you’re working out with a training partner because you don’t need any more equipment to train together. Likewise, this is also useful if you’re doing a superset (i.e bicep curls and tricep pulldowns) and can set up one side for each, saving time between sets.

Safety First

Another benefit to the Functional Trainer is how safe it is. The pin weight stack removes any need for free weights such as weight plates that can easily be dropped. This could cause injury or damage to the gym if not handled properly.
