Frequently Asked Questions

A functional trainer is a cable-based strength machine with adjustable pulleys that can be used for full body workouts. It’s designed to mimic real-life movement and can be used for strength, mobility, and rehabilitation training.

Yes, a functional trainer is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment for a home gym. It can replace multiple machines by enabling hundreds of exercises in a compact footprint.

A functional trainer features two uprights and separate adjustable pulleys, while a cable machine would typically be a single pulley with an attachment on it. This means that you can use functional trainers for dual arm exercises such as chest flies. Functional trainers offer exceptional versatility within a small space.

A weight stack makes it quicker and easier to swap weight within your workout, and you will need less space to store plates. However, if you already have a good collection of bumper plates, then a plate loaded functional trainer will be the cheaper option. View the Weight stack functional trainer

Yes, due to the sheer variety of exercises you can perform on them, a functional trainer can be a suitable replacement for a full gym set up. However, in order to do some exercises, you will also require a weight bench.

A 1:1 pulley ratio means that the force required to move the weight is the same as the loaded weight. This means that a bicep curl on a 1:1 machine with 20kg worth of plates loaded feels the same as using a 15kg barbell. With a 2:1 ratio, only half the amount of force is required, so the weight loaded onto the machine is effectively halved. In this case, a bicep curl with 20kg weight loaded would be equivalent to lifting 10kg worth of free weights.

The central pulley has a 1:1 ratio, and the side pulleys have a 2:1 ratio. This allows for heavier weight for exercises like lat pulldowns and seated rows using the central pulley, while offering a smoother feel and greater range of motion for more functional exercises.

Total height: 208cm
Total width: 180cm
Total depth: 154cm
When considering ceiling height allow at least 15cm extra for installation, so a minimum of 223cm is required.

With the width being 180cm and the need to get a full range of motion, plus the ability to place a bench inside it, you would need a working space of 2.5m x 3m to fully utilise the machine.

This model does not need to be bolted to the floor, however, counterweights must be placed on the storage poles when performing pull-ups.

Yes, our functional trainers are great for garage and home gyms, just remember to check the available head height in your garage.

This cable machine comes with a lat pulldown bar, straight bar, ankle strap, triceps rope and two strap handles, making it easy to target multiple muscle groups. (additional attachments can be found here)

We are using the functional trainer for 2 month now and the rating is just a 3 star. (1-unsafe;2-unsat;3-sat,4-good;5-perfect (german rating)) The functional trainer is mostly built solid as always on Mirafit products. Unfortunately this time some diagonally fix should have be planned to avoid the trainer moves during exercising. e.g. Cable Overhead triceps extension and the top of the structures moves up to 2 inches. Same when you do TTB's. After getting in touch with Mirafit the only advice is to (over) tighten the screws and the usage is safe. OK... not amazing

Amazing product, I have been using it regularly for the past few months with very few criticisms. Would love to have seen a weight stack upgrade & version rather than plate loaded. When using the lat pulldown on high weights your lifted from your seat and there is no way to secure your legs. The center pillar could be used for attachments or have rollers automatically fitted to hold legs in place. Cable crossover exercises don't provide enough cable to perform and also the cable catches if you don't stand far enough forward when attempting these exercises. I would like to have seen a slightly better range of motion here and cable extension attachment to support these movements but appreciate this is extremely minor compared to all the upsides.

Glad I went for this , when space is tight this kit has a lot of capability which fits in a relatively small footprint so happy with my decision

I bought the Mirafit functional trainer because I wanted the versatility of the two variable height pulleys on the steel uprights with their 2:1 ratio in addition to the lat pull down and low row pulleys which have a 1:1 ratio. I'm so glad I did. It's a great piece of equipment. Apart from cable crossovers, I like the variable height pulleys for cable lateral raises and cable crunches. All the pulleys are really smooth and the set up is really stable. I like the grippy rubber coating over the chin up bars too. Before I put it together, I watched the Mirafit youtube assembly video once through to get an overall idea of what to do. The video shows you eveything you need to do. If you follow it you will be fine. Then I played and paused each part of the video one step at a time while I was putting it all together. The construction does take a while because there are a lot of parts but I managed to do it on my own no problem whatsoever. There are loads of 16mm nuts and bolts. In the box you will get a box spanner and multi spanner included which are fine for holding the bolts but I really recommend getting hold of a 16mm ratchet spanner beforehand to dramatically cut down the time to tighten everything up. Before I bought it I emailed Mirafit with a couple of questions. They responded really quickly with everything I wanted to know. Overall I'm really happy with it and would definitely buy it again.

The build wasn’t too difficult at all. It took about three hours on my own. As long as you carefully follow the instructions it does quite smoothly. Just had one hole to clean a snot of paint out of to for a bush to fit. Once built it a robust and smooth operating piece of equipment which does all I need for the foreseeable future. A brilliant addition to the home gym.

I absolutely love this bit of kit. It is very solid and you can do so much with it. The only downside was the build. Took me and a friend about 5-6 hours to build. The instructions are not very clear so had to keep switching between deciphering the pictures and watching the YouTube video. Now it is up I am really impressed with it. No issues with it at all.

This is the centrepiece of my standard UK sized single garage. It sits at the back wall facing the door and takes up 2/3 of the width, allowing space either side to load the plates. It's placed on top of 20mm gym flooring mats and still allows me headroom for pull-ups without touching my head off the low ceiling. It's size and range of functions are why I bought this over any other multi-function trainer. Would I have preferred the weighted stacks instead of plates....yes, BUT the extra cost, couple with the lack of lat pulldown and low row options put me off. This version is way more versatile and offers great value for money, especially when having been waiting patiently since its release, I managed to snap it up in the October Sale for £200 less, which I thought was outstanding value for money. Thank you Mirafit! I knew I loved using cables at my local gym, so this was a must for my home gym. I use it most days and it's never let me down in the 4 months I've had it. It arrives well packaged in 2 large boxes and you'll need plenty of space to build it in situ. It comes with a small bottle of oil, but it was pretty useless, so glad I had some 3-In-1 spray oil to hand for lubricating the stack poles. The upper and lower cables are 1:1 ratio and the side cables are 2:1 ratio, so you have options. I'm 6'2", 200lbs, average build and this machine fits me really well for cable flys and most arm/back work. I use a decline bench to sit on to get extra stretch with the lat pull down and usually low row from the floor, fitting the grip about 3/4 down the chain attachment for extra stretch. I've never loaded more than 50kg on the stack so far, but the machine is solid, does not need bolting to the floor and does not move when in use. I built it by myself over the course of about 6 hours all-in. I recommend watching the Mirafit assembly video on YouTube to help guide you and compliment the printed instructions which are pretty decent, if a little small. The bolts etc are very well labelled and easy to identify. I would highly recommend having a socket set with two ratchets handy instead of the awful cheap tool supplied. It'll be far easier on your hands. The supplied attachments are basic, but ok. I've upgraded almost all of them straight away, with an array of better versions, but I don't regret this or see it as much of a negative really, just a natural progression and more toys to play with. The only thing I think that could be improved in this respect is swapping the straight bar and Lat PD bar for thicker versions that rotate, as the ones supplied are thinner and do not rotate at all. I've not used the ankle cuff yet, but I did swap to thicker handled D-rings which is a personal preference. One note when buying attachments for this is that standard commercial gym spec attachments like V-Bars etc have thicker connecting tabs, which makes using the 8mm carabiners that come standard with this machine VERY tight and awkward for taking them on and off and has caused a few sore finger moments. I've now swapped to some larger 10mm carabiners and they work much better, so maybe something for Mirafit to consider for the upper and lower cables. The standard 8mm carabiners are fine for the side cables. At my height I would have liked the cable travel on the side cables to have been a bit longer, as I sometimes cause the plate carriage mechanism at the back to strike the top of the cables pulleys which can indent them (still function fine), but I just need to be more aware of how far away I'm standing and adjust accordingly. Definitely not a deal-breaker by any means. If you're unsure about this machine, it's basically the same (albeit a nicer looking version) of the US branded 'Titan' and owner reviews are available on YouTube - all positive. I can't recommend this machine enough. I absolutely love it, so much so that I rarely venture into my local gym now, as with everything else I have in my garage (M230 squat rack, M3 6ft barbell, adjustable dumbbells, adjustable bench, EZ curl bar), I can do most exercises at home. If I could only keep one bit of exercise equipment, this would be it! Just buy it, you won't regret it!
