Nothing winds us up like poor gym etiquette.

So we took to social media, the bastion of measured responses, to ask you gym-goers for some of the weirdest things you’ve seen while working out.

You outdid yourselves and gave us plenty of creepy, unnerving and just downright disgusting gym stories to make us think twice about renewing our gym memberships and question everything we thought we knew about what is acceptable in public.

In the end, we settled on the 10 that made us laugh most:

Pioneering the Gym-Suit

Ever tried and failed to squeeze a workout into your lunch hour? This guy found a way to do it all without leaving his business suit. Spare a thought for his colleagues post 3pm though.

This is a social media post about a man who wore a suit to the gym.

A Long Hard Look in the Mirror

We all know those gym-buffs who give their own reflection far more attention than the equipment:

Wife’s Knickers Got Him in a Twist

We all know how amazing it feels in those rare occasions when we reach into our pockets and find something unexpected like a fiver. We imagine this must have been the opposite.

This is a social media post about a man who went to wipe sweat from his brow his handkerchief but instead reached for his wife's underwear.

Pretty in Orange

If for you the gym is more about image than exercise, then dressing yourself from head to toe in bright orange is one way to stand out.

This is a social media post about a man who turned up to the gym in all-over orange.

Pole Dance Like No One’s Watching

Most gyms, like most bars, don’t have a pole dancing pole, which can make it difficult for pole dancers to put in the practice. Some, it appears, have taken to bringing their own equipment to the gym with them.

This is an image of a social media post about someone who brought a full pole dancing kit to the gym.

You Won’t Believe the Balls on This Guy

It can be difficult to dry all those difficult-to-reach places with merely a towel. Some people, it seems, prefer to give their full body the hair dryer treatment – even in public.

Giving Weight-Loss New Meaning

Asking a skinny boy, with eyes bigger than his biceps, to leave a gym seems harsh. But on the flipside, this gym novice’s inflated opinion of his own strength sounds like it was putting others in danger.

This is an image of a social media post about a young man who dropped some weights when he tried to lift too heavy.

Bananas Split Squats

We all know that a good diet is crucial to getting results from your training. But eating two boxes of bananas during one session sounds more like an eating challenge than anything remotely diet related.

This is an image of a social media post about some people who were eating banana s in the gym.

Don’t Look Down

This respondent doesn’t have a fear of heights but she didn’t dare to look down when she was harangued by one fully nude gym member, who decided the situation was just right to spark up a conversation about the infrastructure of Britain’s most Easterly town.

Pecs, Shrugs and Sausage Rolls

What’s with people bringing food to the gym? As if two boxes of bananas weren’t bad enough, one guy couldn’t wait until after his workout to chomp through a four-pack of sausage rolls from Greggs.

This is an image of a social media post about a man who was eating sausage rolls during his training.

Honourable Mention: Downhill Cyclist

Those resistance spin bikes can be challenging. But one person failed to understand that the gravitational easing you get when going downhill really only applies to bicycles with wheels. They even left the gym without re-racking their exercise bike. Poor form.

This is an image of a social media post showing an exercise bike with the back raised.

We can’t help but point out that none of these problems occur if you have a home gym. Here’s how to make one.
