Mirafit Year in Review 2022

As we head into the final remaining days of 2022, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the achievements and setbacks of the year. Doing this kind of review can help you set goals for the following 12 months. What are you proud of and what do you want to work on in 2023?

We asked these same questions to some of the Mirafit athletes and found out what their goals are for 2023, both in competition, and to become better athletes.

Adam Bishop

2022 was an extremely tough year for Bish. A shoulder injury at Britain’s Strongest Man in February resulted in a disappointing third place and although he was thankful to be on the podium once again, it was not the result he was working towards. With a tough draw in his group for WSM, he missed out on a place in the final by the narrowest margin in the stone off against the ever-impressive Trey Mitchell.

In preparation for attempting the WR Deadlift at 505kg disaster struck and Adam suffered a full tricep rupture which required surgery, effectively ending his 2022 season. Upon reflection Adam saw 2022 as his worst year in the sport since 2017. But he’s taken this opportunity to reinvent himself as an athlete and really work on his conditioning and other weaknesses in the game.

Adam has set himself big goals for next year, hoping to reclaim his title as Britain’s Strongest Man and place in the top five at World’s Strongest Man.

Bobbie Butters

2022 has been an outstanding year for Bobbie in Powerlifting. During the British National Championships, she was the 2nd overall lifter in Britain and broke the British record for the squat (185kg) and bench press (110.5kg). But it didn't stop there, Bobbie then went on to place third at the World Championships, then first place at the European Championships, whilst also breaking her own world record in the squat (185.5kg). It’s been a pretty big year for Bobbie who was ranked the second-best lifter across all weight classes.

In 2023 Bobbie wants to get better and stronger both as a Powerlifter and in her professional career. Her goal is to develop her knowledge as a lecturer and Strength and Conditioning Coach and progress in her PhD.

Chloe Brennan

As a Strongwoman competitor, this year Chloe achieved things that were once a dream. She took a podium place at the Arnold in the USA, won the Arnold Pro in the UK and achieved her second world record. As well as this, Chloe has been growing her business ‘Holistic Strength Coaching’ with more developments in the pipeline. It’s been a great year both in terms of athletic and business growth.

Next year, Chloe wants to inspire more people by competing more in her new weight class and doing more for her coaching business.

Dan Tai

Taking the leap was Dan’s goal for 2022. At the start of the year, he relocated to Denmark for the CrossFit 2022 season with his girlfriend and teammates to compete as a team of four. Unfortunately, with a teammate injured, they returned to the UK six months later, but that didn’t stop Dan from ticking off achievements. Throughout the year he -

• Competed in the French Throwdown Elite category

• Came first place in the Strength in Depth Community Cup

• Came second place in the individuals at Arnold Fitness Games Elite

• First place in the Dubai Turf Games

Dan spent the year prioritising his health and working on minor injuries setting him up to hopefully qualify for the 2023 CrossFit Games.

Donna Moore

We caught up with Donna who told us that 2022 has been a hard and busy but fantastic year. It all started at the Arnold Pro Strongwoman in Columbus, Ohio in March. For Donna this competition was a mental challenge more than a physical one and although she failed on her first deadlift attempt, she didn’t stop there, giving it all she had to make the lift.

After this, she went onto place second at Ultimate Strongman UK’s Strongest Woman. However, it was after this that Donna made a significant change in her Strongman career by deciding to drop to the next weight class down at 82kg. This meant she would have to compete regionally and nationally at a lower weight.

Qualifying the regionals in first place Donna then went to compete in England’s Strongest Woman where she won. But not without some sacrifice, completely detaching her left bicep during the first event.

After surgery and rehab, the year finished with a bang, Donna was part of the winning UK team for Giants Live World’s Strongest. It was the first time that Giants Live have had women athletes in their show, which was a step in the right direction for Strongwomen.

Next year starts off with a bang, Australia Pro Ladies in January closely followed by the Arnold Pro Strongwoman Columbus, Ohio in March.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey

For Harry, 2022 was a comeback year. After suffering with an injury and operation in 2021, it was all about returning to the track bigger and better. He came 4th in the British Championships and was part of a team that won gold in both the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships.

Mica Moore

In terms of accomplishments, Mica did more than hit her goals on the bobsleigh track. In 2022 she was nominated for the Outstanding Female Contribution to Sport alongside Alex Scott and Dame Kelly Holmes. Along with this, she was a silver medallist at the 2022 Welsh Championships 60m and had personal records of her own smashed when she got a new 60m PB of 7.44 and a box jump PB of 48” here in our very own Mirafit HQ.

Shane Flowers

2022 was a hectic year for Shane, however during a busy period of his life and work he still accomplished incredible achievements in the Strongman world. Shane claimed 4th place at the Giants Live Britain’s Strongest Man and 5th place at Giants Live Europe’s Strongest Man, missing the podium by just two points. He also had the opportunity to compete at the World’s Strongest Man in Sacramento, although had to withdraw due to injury.

2023 is all about refocusing and working less to dedicate more time to Strongman training.

Feeling inspired to think about your own journey in 2023? Whether you want to master your first pull up or hit a PB in a barbell back squat, no goal is too big or too small. Make sure you’ve got the right equipment to reach your fitness goals.
