Hybrid Training

A standard Hyrox competition involves eight workouts mixed in with 1km runs. This means that hybrid athlete training sessions must focus on both strength and endurance. The workout sessions could involve a rowing machine, medicine ball work or pushing a weight sled. Either way, you will need to build stamina and muscle mass to compete.

Hybrid Athlete Equipment for Hyrox style workouts

In recent years there has been a significant rise in the popularity of hybrid training. Programs such as Hyrox or Crossfit focus on improving overall fitness using a variety of exercise techniques.

What equipment do I need for Hybrid Training?

You can use a wide range of equipment because of the varied nature of the workouts. If you are looking to raise your heart rate or are interested in building muscles, then being a hybrid athlete has something for you. Cardio machines are an important part of the endurance training, whilst strength sessions can involve competition kettlebells.

Some of the exercises will only require bodyweight to complete, such as burpees. Others will require sandbags, free weights or larger cardio machines such as a ski machine.

How do I train for hybrid fitness events?

You will want to train both upper and lower body, remembering to take appropriate rest days in between. The intensity of exercise will vary depending on your goal, if you are joining in for fun, you'll need to train less than someone hoping to take home a trophy. Regardless, you will want a good mixture of strength work and distance runs.
